Sewing 201 (Tops & Dresses, Includes 3 Classes)

This is a three week course that meets once per week for 3 hours per class. 9 hours of class time total over 3 weeks. Each class in the course meets at the same time and on the same day of the week.

Zelli is a fashion designer, tailor, and teaching artist with over five years of professional experience. A graduate of Savannah College of Art & Design with a BFA in Fashion Design, she has worked across garment construction, alterations, tailoring, costume production, and arts education. She brings hands-on experience in pattern drafting, draping, garment fittings, hand and machine sewing, and textile arts, along with a passion for helping students build creative confidence and craftsmanship.

• Cutting pattern for tops and dresses using woven fabrics

• Setting in sleeves

• Gathering

• Cuff sleeve construction

• Neckline construction 

• Dart construction for adjusting fit 

• Sewing buttonholes 

• Hand sewing buttons

• 3 yards of non stretch cotton shirting in a light to medium weight must be purchased by students for the first class.

• Includes use of sewing machines and studio sewing tools (cutting tables, irons, scissors, etc.) 

• Use of sewing machines, sergers, scissors is included.

Each course has a maximum of 8 students. 

Below is an outline of the topics covered in each class. 

Class One: 

• How to cut out a woven top or dress pattern

• Adding all markings to fabric for construction 

• Practice sewing of gathering, cuff construction, and neckline construction 

Class Two: 

• Sewing of woven top or dress

Class Three: 

• Finishing of woven top or dress construction

Your instructor will walk you step by step through each aspect of the course at an easy-to-follow pace.

Intro to Sewing or Sewing Machine Basics or Sewing 101 Bootcamp or equivalent sewing experience
