
Sewing 101 (Includes 3 Classes)
Sewing 101 is a beginner-friendly sewing course designed to build confidence from the first stitch. Learn how to use a sewing machine, read patterns, cut fabric, sew seams and waistbands, and complete your own tote bag and pants or skirt. No sewing experience required. Machines and tools provided.
This is a three week course that meets once per week for 3 hours per class. 9 hours of class time total over 3 weeks. Each class in the course meets at the same time and on the same day of the week.
This course is meant for beginners with no previous sewing experience. We will cover:
How to thread a sewing machine
Overview of tools and equipment used in sewing
Basic stitches including straight straight stitch and zig-zag
Different seam constructions
How to read a commercial pattern
How to property prepare and cut fabric
How to sew a tote bag or apron
How to construct an elastic waistband
How to sew a pant or skirt
You will leave this course with the skills and ability to do beginner-level sewing projects!
James Chapman, Owner & Instructor
James is passionate about teaching and empowering students new skills. He has been sewing for over 15 years, and has worked as a fashion designer for over 12 years. He has showcased at New York Fashion Week, sold his designs to major retailers, and has designed for several major fashion brands.
Class 1:
All supplies for the first class are included.
Pattern, thread, and all tools are included.
Use of our sewing machines is included, however if you wish to bring your own you can.
Class 2 and 3:
Students will purchase 2 - 3 yards of fabric to make their skirt or pants with. The instructor will give suggestions for this during the first class.
Sewing machines and tools are provided, however if you wish to bring your own you can.
Age 16+

Each course has a maximum of 8 students.

Class One:
Intro to the sewing machine, stitches, seams, and basic sewing techniques
How to cut out a pattern
How to sew a tote bag or apron
Class Two:
How to cut out a pant or skirt pattern
How to sew an elastic waistband
Class Three:
How to sew a pant or skirt continued
Your instructor will walk you step by step through each aspect of the course at an easy-to-follow pace.
