Intro to Pattern Making (Copy Your Clothing, 3 Week Course)

This is a three week course that meets once per week for 3 hours per class. 9 hours of class time total over 3 weeks. Each class in the course meets at the same time and on the same day of the week.

• Key points of measurement, and taking body measurements

• Drafting a base pattern using a clothing item you already own

• Entry level pattern making techniques 

• How to draft a skirt or top pattern using a clothing item you already own

• How to adjust a sloper (base pattern) to create new silhouettes

Arc is a fashion designer and technical design expert with over a decade of industry experience. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), he has built his career specializing in technical design, garment construction, fit, and product development. His work spans major retailers and national brands. Arc has helped develop and launch thousands of apparel products and patented designs. He brings extensive real-world knowledge of turning a design concepts into production-ready garments to his teaching.

Each course has a maximum of 8 students. 

Below is an outline of the topics covered in each class. 

Class One: 

• How to take body measurements

• How to copy an existing garment to create a sewing pattern

Class Two: 

• Pattern making of existing garment continued

Class Three: 

• How to adjust a sloper (base pattern) to create new silhouettes

Your instructor will walk you step by step through each aspect of the course at an easy-to-follow pace. You will leave this course with a pattern to create new variations of the clothing item you bring into the first class.

• Students must bring at least 2 options they want to copy to create a sewing pattern from. Skirt or top. No pants or jackets. Item being copied must be a non stretch woven. No Knits. 

• Includes use of sewing machines and studio sewing tools (cutting tables, irons, scissors, etc.) 

• Use of sewing machines, sergers, scissors is included.

Intro to Sewing or Sewing Machine Basics or Sewing 101 Bootcamp or equivalent sewing experience
