Service Description
Ready to learn how to sew? Whether you've never touched a sewing machine or you're looking for a refresher, this beginner-friendly sewing class will teach you the essential skills you need to start sewing with confidence. In this hands-on bootcamp, you'll learn how to use a sewing machine, understand sewing terminology, read a commercial pattern, choose the right fabric, and construct a tote bag and your first wearable garment. By the end of the class, you'll leave with two completed projects and the skills & resources to continue your sewing journey. What You'll Learn • Sewing machine setup and operation • Essential sewing tools and terminology • Fabric types and how to choose the right fabric • Understanding grainlines and pattern markings • Seam allowances and seam finishes • Reading and using commercial sewing patterns • Basic garment construction techniques Projects Students will complete: • A denim tote bag • An elastic-waist garment from a commercial pattern (shorts, skirt, or pajama pants) Supplies • Fabric and materials for the tote bag are included. • Patterns are included with registration. • Students will need 3–4 yards of woven, non-stretch fabric for their garment project. Recommended fabrics include cotton, linen blends, rayon blends, and lightweight crepe. Class Duration • 6 hours total. Prerequisites None. This class is designed for complete beginners.
